Avulsed -
Goresplattered Suicide 2005 |
To
the casual death head, Avulsed may appear to be a standard gore band
with the usual Carcass influences. 'Stabwound Orgasm' was an indeed
an ode to Carcass, and at the same time was a killer album. In fact,
each album seems to represent a new evolution of Avulsed, with the
music sounding quite different, yet still staying true to the brutal
art. This is perhaps due to s few lineup changes that have occurred
over the years. Avulsed have come quite a way since the Blessed
by Gore days and have evolved into a very tight death/gore band.
There is notable use of blast snares, and many songs incorporate
dual vocals (new and improved demonic bullfrog vocal style; is there
a name for this yet me wonders?), of which both are provided by Dave
Rotten I assume. The production is very clean, allowing one to
easily make out individual instruments. They include a 15 second
song, 'Infernal Haemorrhoids' which perhaps reflects quickly on a
rather bad day. Also check out the bands experimentation with some
synth and sitar (I think it is at least.) on 'Hoax Therapy'. The
final track is a cover of Motorheads 'Ace of Spades', done gore
metal sytle. Comes out quite nice actually. All in all, the songs
sound unique and make for a varied listening experience. I'll say
it as many times as needed: Avulsed with blast snares and death
froggie vocals sound great alongside the relentless guitars of Juan
Calvo and Jose Orero. This band is not for the weak. It is constant
barrage of fuckin brutal ass death metal. Some of Spain's finest at
that. In a day when it's hard to find bands evolving in the right
direction, Avulsed is a breath of hellfire!
